Record-breaking auction at Sotheby’s in Australia where 450 thousand U.S. dollars to beat a rare diamond-cut heart. The 8.19-carat diamond, mounted on a necklace, was one of the 224 lots offered for sale by auction house in Double Bay in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The buyer remained anonymous, has thus established the record for the single most expensive diamond sold at auction the entire Australian continent. Overall, the auction totaled $ 2.62 million with only forty-seven lots sold, attracting buyers from around the world.
Despite the record of Australia, the stone is not the most expensive in the world, beaten by the heart-cut diamond at Christie’s in February of this year, sold for ten million dollars. In both cases it is still exceptional stones, for the pure and beautiful heart cut.
